Make Up Artistry in Sports Broadcast Production

The amazing opportunities and humbling experiences being a make up artist can offer are almost limitless. Full Cycle TV is an Australian TV production made in Melbourne that covers all things cycling worldwide. The host is one of this country’s best athletes, Scott McGrory OAM who won bronze and gold Olympic medals in his sport. The crew is small but impressive. My job is to make Scott and his panel guests camera ready. This takes around 10 minutes for the gents and a little longer for the females. As it is a sports program we keep the looks for the women fresh, not too over done. My go to make-up for the men is mattifier, base, concealer, powder, bronzer, lip balm, enhancing lashes and brows where necessary.

Every week Scott brings in fascinating sports memorabilia from his successful career. These are displayed on set on the coffee table. The table was hand crafted by another brilliant Australian sports star Don Allan. Who is Don Allan?

A fiercely determined rider in the seventies,  he became stratospherically successful overseas. Injury forced early retirement and he returned to Australia. Finding himself in a premature post cycling life quandary (much before mens’ depression was spoken about) Don tasked himself with building the coffee table. It is a replica of the Dortmund track, a favourite of his. Now this victorious Victorian resides in the Dandenongs running a quaint guesthouse perhaps coasting through the Ups and Downs of life. Like the Tour de France or Tour Down Under, ironic how life can imitate sport.

Be sure to watch Full Cycle TV on Foxtel and Channel 9 to see The Coffee Table, TV Make up and inspiring stories.
